Personal profile
Carmen Björnald
is born in Germany from a Liberian father and a German mother; she then
spends her early years in Goteborg, Sweden, where she achieves a degree
in Design and Fabric Research.
She arrives in Italy in the early '80s
and
soon gets a job as a model and also joins the "Peter Jack Band",
a well
known pop band at that time. After two years, she leaves the band
and works exclusively on the catwalks for some of the most prestigious
Designers, such as Giorgio Armani, Gianfranco Ferrè, Versace, Moschino,
Fendi and many others.
In the early '90s, she decides to dedicate her time
on her family and children. After two years, she goes back to school
to attend a course on jewellery mastered by Davide de Paoli,
a contemporary sculptor who loves to mix precious metals with minor
materials.
From this new experience, Carmen creates her first jewellery
Collection. Using a loom, a knitting needle or a crochet-hook, she weaves
silver threads in which precious and semi-precious stones seem to be
trapped in. Her fusions have irregular and unique shapes. In 2006, while
travelling in a distant country which she deeply loves, she becomes aware
of a global problem: waste disposal. On this occasion, she develops the idea
of designing a line of accessories, using different waste materials...
An immediate success!
