Horns and bones come from domestic Indonesian cows or Philippine
Water Buffalos (Bubalus bubalis); both are used as draft animals
(for example, to plow muddy rice paddies) and are also consumed
as food. They are highly valued and are not dispatched only for their
horns and bones; these have an incredibly small value compared with
that of a living animal. The material is acquired after death, and since
the cultures from which they are attained believe in utilizing the whole
animal, nothing goes to waste and thus the animal is fully honored.
Following is a quote that sums up the status and respect
the water buffalo commands in the areas in which it is found.

An anonymous Asian rice farmer, said:
"To my family, the buffalo is more important than I am.
When I die, they'll weep for me; but if our buffalo dies, they may starve."
